Jesus, knowing that
they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain
by himself” (John 6:15)
India had Kings – Maharajas. Their pomp, riches and opulence
has always been in the folklore. Recently a Rolls Royce ordered by King of
Kapurthala went under hammer for 400,000
Pounds Opulence was also in their crockeries, diamond studded coat, finery of
Gold; the list is endless. Remember all these were happening when the majority
of the subjects were living in abject poverty.
The curious note by John mentioned above is in stark
contrast with the Maharajas. He refused be the King when people chose Him as
king, he refused the “authority and splendor” offered by Devil in exchange for
worship. In the Garden of Gethsemane when soldiers came to arrest him, with 12 legions
of angels at this disposal Jesus didn’t order the Angels to take their position. The king meek and lowly has never exerted the
rights of a King.
He refused to become King by the choice of men, He didn’t
need to. He was King himself, eternally
the King.
When people saw Jesus doing miracles many believed in Him.
But John here adds a comment “But Jesus
himself would not entrust himself to them, for He knew all men”
And unto the king eternal, immortal, invisible, the only
wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever Amen.
